Varanasi, historically known as Kashi, has experienced an unmatched growth in international tourism, with foreign tourist numbers spiking by 120-fold within the last three years. Back in 2021, the city received about 2,566 foreign tourists; cut to June 2025, where the city had already welcomed 187,922 foreign travelers. This exceptional growth in Kashi tourism has transformed the city into a global tourism destination in a very short time frame, attracting travelers from all over the world to experience the city’s rich spiritual heritage and cultural vibrancy.

Kashi welcomed more than 11 crores of tourists in 2024, which reflected an 18.7% increase from the previous year.
