Sarnath

Someone said it right when they said: what “Varanasi is to Hindus is Sarnath to Buddhists”. Just 10 kms away from Varanasi lies the land of Buddhist, with its root tied to Lord Buddha himself making it a sacred place.

It is said Lord Buddha shared his first teachings with his 5 disciples here. With Dhamek Stupa, Sarnath Archaeological Museum and different Temples and Monasteries to explore, Sarnath is a top tourist destination outside Varanasi.

The Ashoka Chakra also known as the Dharmachakra was originated here from The Ashoka Pillar built by the famous Emperor Ashoka (a devoted follower of Lord Buddha).
